Opa taught me to make it “ Hot as hell, Sweet as love a nd Black as night.” I only put cream in coffee at Panera or S tarfucks cause the swill is bad but it is plenty caffeine.

i put milk in both tea and coffee.

black coffee is awful.

black tea is drinkable, but with  milk is my preference.

College taught me to have it straight black. Could never find the sugar, could never trust the milk...

It’s funny - I like a little coffee in my cream and sugar, but when it comes to tea I don’t want anything in it - no cream, no sugar, no lemon, no honey. I do drink plenty of hot tea, especially during winter, but I am American, so unlike the rest of the world I enjoy  iced tea, served at any time of day. I’ll even have a glass, er, cup of it at breakfast like I did today whilst out and about. I’m not from the South (Southern California is south, yes, but not in the South ...) so the overly sugary concoction known as ‘sweet tea’ is still a foreign concept to me.

And then there’s this, one of the best things to come out of Australia since Tim Tams:

(not the exact model I have but close enough...)

i’ve never had sweet tea or iced tea.

tea (for me) has to be piping hot.

I guess it’s just a cultural thing - where you are and what’s considered normal. In SoCal iced tea always  meant unsweetened, but now that I live in the Midwest, close to the South, I have to be specific on which kind I want lest I wind up in a diabetic coma (and I don’t have diabetes...)

I don’t like a bunch of sugar in my drinks, so I’ll have unsweetened iced tea or sparkling water (or just still water) when I want something to cool off with but don’t want an alcoholic beverage. What would you drink in that same situation?

For tea, a little honey/sugar in Earl Grey hot is about all I drink at home . I usually order unsweetened Arnold Palmers when eating out. When I was in England a few years ago, noticed that there is always a tank of hot water at the eaterys for tea. And there is usually a selection o f instant coffees. Man, is their stuff better than ours! Can’t get any of them here but those from the Latin aisle at Walmart are drinkable. Lot richer and smoother taste than the American carp on the coffee aisle . Good for a pickmeup on these hot afternoons. I mix it strong with cold water...

I like the cut of your jib. I just never could quite get behind strong hot black coffee without a little creamer.

I have never known anyone to drink sweet tea and immediately like it that isn’t from here. It’s an acquired taste. I still remember the reaction of this friend from Haiti after I had lightly hyped it up and then he couldn't even swallow.
